My Students
When I see my students, I often wonder who they will become. They aren't just kids. They are tomorrow's leaders, workers, teachers, artists, doctors, builders, and coaches. My hope is that a love of learning and reading will grow in them this year and for years to come.
My 14 amazing students come to school curious, excited, and eager to learn.
I want to provide them with a variety of quality, engaging books.
What I love about my students is how eager they are to learn and embrace challenges. The other day, I handed a child a book. He looked at the cover and hugged it. The topic excited him! It is a challenging text for him, but he said, "I've wanted to read this for so long. It is a bit hard, but I can make up for that because I really want to read it!"
My Project
As a fourth grade teacher, one of my goals is to connect children with books they will love. Even the most reluctant, struggling readers begin to thrive when they meet the right books. Every day in our classroom, students are given time to read - not just the books we ask them to read but the books they long to read. During COVID and our operation in a hybrid model, it has been more critical than ever to offer students a variety of texts and various levels so they can enjoy books both at school and at home. To do this consistently, our outdated classroom library needs a boost of engaging texts.
By expanding our classroom library, students will have a far greater chance of developing a love of reading.
"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book." - Frank Serafini
