Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I work with attend the AfCwA. They are nonverbal, have many sensory issues, and have decreased interaction with functional activities.

Our elementary school is a Title I school with a large migrant population.

Our students qualify to receive free or reduce price lunch.

My children with Autism have language, motor, and cognitive delays and learn at their own pace. There interaction in functional activities is often diminished due to decreased attention to task and difficulty processing sensory input from their environment. Many of the children are adversely affected by information that we take for granted in the environment and have difficulty functionally engaging in activities. Once they are able to attend, you are able to discover all the amazing talents and abilities that frequently go unseen unless you find just the right way to open the door. Let's open the door!

My Project

The ball chairs and fidget bands will allow my students to move while they are seated. The light tube and lavender diffuser will provide a calming atmosphere.

These essential sensory materials and strategies will help my students focus and concentrate on learning new things.

Sensory chairs and bands will assist to promote self organization and the scent of lavender provides soothing aromas that assist with decreasing unnecessary sensory stimulation. When we are able to process sensory information more effectively our ability to understand and learn increases significantly. It is time to " Open the Doors to a New World of Learning."
