Our school is a Title I school with most of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch and a high population of English Language Learners. Many of our students come from homes that do not have many opportunities for displaying their creativity and sharing their artistic abilities with their families.
I have been teaching for more than 20 years and every year I love seeing the wonder and amazement in my students' eyes as they excitedly tell their families "I made this".
Students come to school to learn and I will do anything I can to provide an exciting environment that allows for successful opportunities for learning and creating.
My Project
As a school one of our goals is to help increase student learning by providing fun and interactive activities for the family. This year we would like to have an Art Show with school-wide participation. During the Art Show we would like to have an interactive rock painting station for families to create a unique rock to place in our school-wide "Rock River" to adorn our school community garden. We need river rocks, paintbrushes, and paint to create a wonderful, colorful rock river for our school garden area.
By improving parent/family participation, we hope to have the parents and family members see how much their student enjoys school activities and how important their role is to the learning that is going on.
This will help student achievement by having their families directly involved with these after hour events.
