There are 46 wonderful second grade students in my dual language classes who spend half of their instructional day in an English-speaking classroom and the other half in a Mandarin-speaking classroom. They work very hard every day in order to be proficient in both languages.
My students study all subjects in both languages according to California Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.
They love art, music, science lessons, hands-on activities, and creating unique art pieces that combine colors, words, and ideas. The best of all, they can read, write, and speak in both languages!
My Project
My students learn all subjects in both English and Mandarin daily. However, our Mandarin resource is very limited. Teachers in our program often translate learning materials from English to Chinese in order to meet our students' needs and academic standards. Since our district decided on distance learning for the new school year, an online Mandarin library will help my students engage in our online classrooms
Financial literacy is one of the important subjects that should start at an early age.
I wish I could have more resources to implement the idea of Financial Literacy for my students, especially during this pandemic. With iChineseReader accounts, my second graders will have the opportunity to access thousands of books with me during online learning. For instance, one of the books that my students would benefit from this online library is "Buyer and Seller" in Mandarin. It teaches students the definition of a buyer and a seller. Moreover, students can find many books on the topic of mathematics. Additionally, the large timer would be used in our visual and physical classrooms that help students to manage time during activities.
Learning Financial literacy by reading different types of books will help lay the foundation for reading skills, money skills, life skills, and saving and setting financial goals for my students both now and into the future!
