This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth-grade classroom in Ohio is comprised of approximately forty-eight amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free breakfast and lunch.
It is important to me that my students are provided a classroom environment that promotes learning and well-being.
The learning environment that I hope to create for my students is one that inspires them to succeed and supports them every step of the way. My students come to school each day, often bringing their home lives with them. I spend a great deal of time throughout the year creating a strong sense of classroom community. My students not only rely on me to support them in their learning and serve as a positive role model in their lives, but they have come to rely on one another through the positive relationships they have formed. Our school receives Title I funding and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn and are from various living situations. Such situations include single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living. I am dedicated to meeting their needs daily, along with building their self-esteem and confidence.
My Project
A Nearpod subscription will make our English Language Arts and Social Studies classes engaging, fun, interactive and enjoyable. The use of Nearpod enhances any classroom experience with built in functions that allows immediate checks for understanding, gives students the opportunity to communicate with peers, and ensures participation and collaboration. Students streamline their learning through module-based instruction that includes virtual field trips, videos, reading materials, polls, questions, and collaboration. Nearpod allows me, as a teacher, to create engaging lessons that incorporate collaboration, critical thinking skills, videos, and virtual reality experiences to help further understanding. I have been using Nearpod a few months now but unfortunately I need to upgrade due to lack of storage. The Nearpod subscription would allow me to create and store more lessons and reach more students per session.
