My Project
My students are virtual learners who live all over the state of New Mexico. For whatever reason, having a disability, participating as a competitive athlete, suffering from being a victim of bullying, or simply living too far from the nearest school, my students are learning from the comfort of their own homes.
While there are clear advantages to this, my students are missing out on two huge elements of education; social and emotional learning.
This group of students is starving for a meaningful connection and for a place to belong. As part of my commitment to fostering a nurturing and engaging virtual learning environment, I have implemented a weekly social hour aimed at supporting the social-emotional health of my diverse student population. During these sessions, students not only connect with each other but also have the opportunity to participate in fun games and activities.
To further enhance this experience, I have decided to use a Cricut Joy machine and the accompanying supplies I requested to create personalized prizes and cards with custom stickers for my students.
By applying this innovative approach, I will not only strengthen my proficiency in integrating technology into the curriculum but also deepen my understanding of the importance of social-emotional support in a virtual classroom. My students will benefit by receiving tangible tokens of encouragement tailored to their interests, reinforcing a sense of belonging and well-being in our online community.
Additionally, this initiative will contribute to their development of essential 21st-century skills, as they can request stickers that align with their passions and hobbies, fostering self-expression and creativity. Overall, my professional growth will be marked by a heightened ability to adapt to the unique needs of virtual learners, ultimately leading to a more enriching and supportive educational experience for my students.
