Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach all come from inner-city, low-income households. It is a self-contained, special education classroom, serving students with significant emotional and behavioral concerns. All of my students have experienced trauma, which makes learning a challenge.

The students who come to my classroom are from many different schools and are all in my classroom for three years.

In the time they spend with me, they develop socially, emotionally, developmentally, and academically. The hope is to stabilize these children so that they can be integrated into the regular education system eventually. Special education is always the last place money goes into the schools, and that is one of the reasons I am asking for your help. Also, these students are extremely challenging to engage in learning due to trauma in their lives. Having these special tools to bring learning to life would help engage them in a way they have not been exposed to yet. I want to provide them with materials and to excite them and widen their educational experience.

My Project

The majority of my students are challenged with ADHD and other diagnoses that make learning and focus difficult. Moving to remote learning is going to be extremely hard for them as many of them have a hard time staying in one place and struggle with distractions around them. These noise canceling headphones will help them drown out the distractions around them, increase what they hear and because they are plugged in, remind them to stay in their learning area. This is going to be the ultimate challenge for my students, these headphones will help make this time more productive and successful.
