My Students
"So sorry. You will have to wait your turn", no teacher anywhere should have to say to an eager student. My fourth-graders are excited about the programs our district has purchased to monitor reading progress and enhance their critical thinking skills in math. We want to be on or above grade level!
My fourth grade students are English learners who primarily participate in our free or reduced lunch program.
Many have learning challenges that at times hinder their ability to access the content through traditional teaching methods. This has inspired us as educators to utilize researched based technology that helps our students make the gains they need. These children enjoy school and are hardly ever absent since they hate to miss out on the varied activities our school offers inside and outside the classroom. The school is a safe haven from the streets that are known to be dangerous and it provides a space for carefree expression through the arts, music and engaging instruction.
My Project
My students will be using the iPad minis to access the reading and math programs recently purchased by our district. The reading program allows students to participate in a tailor-made curriculum that provides me with information about their strengths and weaknesses that I can address in small group instruction. They will also be able to work with the new math program that was purchased this year, which will develop the critical thinking skills of our students and develop their ability to persevere through challenging problems.

With this purchase, I will be able to add this technology towards a class set of iPad minis so that a mini-lab situation can be created within a group of three teachers. Our computer-based programs will be under utilized if we do not have enough technology for more students to access it at once. With funding and resources always being a challenge in our public schools, generous donations help us level the playing field.
