This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my class, we believe that one must earn the right to dream. We believe that our talent, discipline and integrity will be our contribution to a new world and our place within it. I have a class of 20 amazing boys and girls. I really love how eager my students are to learn. Because they have a very short attention span, we are always coming up with ways to make learning fun.
My student's make sure they live up to our school creed
" We are not frightened by the challenges of reality but believe that we can change our conception of this world and our place within it. So we work, plan and dream- and that order".
Even though some of my students come from a very impoverished Englewood neighborhood ( South side of Chicago). I love how they are still innocent, motivated and so full of life. They try really hard not to let their home life affect how well they do in school.
Being a positive friend is very big in our class. We talk about feelings all the time and how important they are.
My Project
" Reading is dreaming with open eyes". I want my students to understand that reading can be easy, fun and exciting. Sometimes my kindergartners get so discouraged from reading because of all of the big words they see when they first open a book. Portable CD players and books on CD will give my students a chance to enjoy a story without feeling discouraged. After listening to different stories I want them to have enough confidence to read the stories on their own. These materials will make reading possible for all of my students to enjoy different stories during reading.
