My students need creative and colorful mathematic materials such as large tape measures, thermometers, geometry sets and hands-on measurement tools that teach perimeter, capacity and weight.
I teach as the librarian and intervention teacher in a small, but dynamic inner-city elementary school.
Many of our boys and girls have trouble understanding some of the more sophisticated concepts in Mathematics. They are accurate in working with simple computation skills but many lack the necessary experiences to understand how to measure accurately, compare weights, create higher-level number patterns or use fractions and algebra in real-world situations. Our library is currently a center for reteaching language and math skills in our after-school programs. Students may also use the math materials during their regular library sessions.
I would like to have a variety of interesting, colorful math activities, games and manipulatives to inspire the children to want to practice their math skills. I want to create an inviting Math Area the students will want to visit! Some of the materials I am requesting are measurement and geometry kits that emphasize learning Perimeter,Capacity and Area and electronic math games that our older students can use to make more intricate mathematic comparisons. I also need enticing games, such as Quic Clips and Crack the Math Code, to inspire younger students to practice their math skills. In addition, I am requesting teaching materials such as large magnetic money and a Grid Activity chart to assist in teaching math skills.
I want our boys and girls to love math!
