This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is filled with a diverse group of curious students who come from various backgrounds. Many of my students come from low-income families, and they don't have the resources others may have.

All of my students come to school eager and ready to learn.

This is why I do my best to give all of them the resources they need to have a successful future. Even though my students come from various backgrounds, there's one thing that makes them the same. They love learning, especially when they get to learn in creative ways.

My Project

Now more than ever, kids need to get up and move around. After months of sitting in front of a screen during distance learning, my students will finally return to campus. It’s time to get them moving and giving them a pedometer is the best way to motivate them to walk more during the day.

Studies have shown that there is a correlation between children's brain function and exercise.

Kids need fresh air and time to move. Many of my students were stuck at home during distance learning and many of them became less active. I want my students to play and walk around the playground during their recess, lunch, and PE breaks. I think if each student had a pedometer, then they would make an effort to be more active during the day.

Here's my goal. I am going to have students track the number of steps they take each day. Then, they will make a step goal for themselves (perhaps having 200 more steps the next day). They can write down their steps every day for a week. Then, they can increase their step goals. This will also help with their mental health. Being outdoors will help clear their minds and make them happier students in the end.

Not only will my students be more active, but my students will be healthier too.
