Help me give my students a copy of the non-fiction book Unbroken (The Young Adult Adaptation): An Olympian's Journey from Airman to Castaway to Captive by Laura Hillenbrand.
I'm biased, but I know the best place to be in the entire school building is the library. As a rural high school librarian, I want my students to view the school library as a place that provides books for pleasure and informational reading, homework and research help, technology tips, as well as a place to explore new hobbies.
This project will provide every high school student their own copy of the non-fiction book Unbroken (The Young Adult Adaptation): An Olympian's Journey from Airman to Castaway to Captive; once read, these books can then be added to the students' home libraries.
Author Laura Hillenbrand details the life of Olympian and WWII POW Louis Zamperini in Unbroken. This non-fiction book includes over 100 photographs taken throughout his life. Building-wide collaborative projects and lessons are already in the works in preparation for my rural high school's first (hopefully, annual) One School, One Book.
This is part 2 of 4, which ensures every high schooler in my rural school district receives a copy of the book.
