My students need equipment that will grasp their interest in being a lifelong learner in physical activity and fitness and also give them the opportunities to find their niche in being lifelong physical participant.
Imagine walking into a Fitness facility and seeing duct tape on equipment, tattered pieces of equipment, or machines that do not work because of years of wear and tear. Many of the equipments we have are second hand or donated from a local school because they have updated their equipment.
What if the equipment they got to use was new or advanced, would they have more interest in their overall fitness and well being?
Physical activity is not about being the best player, but how do you as a person make yourself a better person. This classroom setting gives those kids who could care less about sports the opportunity to succeed in a different setting regarding their physical health and fitness.
My Project
The items I picked for my project are different items that students rarely get exposure to in a Middle or High School fitness center setting. Students will use the kettle balls for strengthening shoulders, lateral movements, and adding overall excitement to a workout. The multi-press unit will give students the opportunity to add that variety to their workout with different grips and movements. The speed bag is something students have been asking for and we just never remember to purchase in the beginning of the year. We already have a punching bag set-up in our fitness center, but not a speed bag to compliment those looking to increase their hand-eye coordination. The overall goal is to give kids the opportunity to succeed on a different level because once they graduate the days of playing sports is few and far between. Physical fitness is something we need in our everyday lives as adults and providing students a solid building block will provide huge dividends in years to come.
