This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of diverse middle school science 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. We are at a Title I school. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background. I strive to have my classroom accessible and equitable, but that becomes a challenge when resources are limited.

My students are current and future scientists who are excited to learn about the world around them through curiosity, observation, data collection, and application.

My students are all eager to learn and make self-discoveries in science. They come to school knowing that it's a safe place where they can create meaningful connections with their peers and teachers. They come with little to no background knowledge of the science content, but they are willing and strive to soak up all the knowledge that is presented to them. My students are wonderful young men and women who are ready to take on the world.

My Project

Students come to class eager to learn, but when they don't have a writing tool it becomes a challenge. I supply my students with pencils because I know that they will use it throughout the day (not just in my class). My students are successful when they are writing and are showing what they are learning in class. The pencil sharpener will help students be prepared for class. The pens are for student feedback. Feedback help students understand their work when they can easily see and correct their mistakes or when they just need the extra encouragement to steer them in the right direction. Both my students and I use pens to provide colorful feedback to each other.

The basic needs of my students are always at the forefront of my mind.
