One More Shelf and Less Noise!

My Project

My algebra class has 30 kids. Many are musicians. They bring their instruments, their lunchboxes, bags and more into my classroom. I thought two shelves would be enough, but turns out, we just need a little more storage space for my larger classes. I could use one more shelf so everyone's bags can find their way off the ground.

In algebra, we go over a lot of formulas and have fun coming up with mnemonic ways of remembering those formulas.

Normally I write them on the whiteboard but they tend to get erased so I will copy them onto a poster board and tape them up somewhere. Having the Post-it pad means we can come up with our mnemonic devices together and keep them up the first time.

I have a mixture of seating in my room. I have two large tables that I use for small group instruction in my smaller classes and 20 or so odd desks with attached seats. In math and algebra, this is fine, but in science, we do a lot of group work so students move and scrape the chairs on the floors. Not only does this damage the floor, but the scraping sound makes some of my students' teeth hurt. We have rubber banded scrap fabric for the time being but those have gotten filthy and keep falling off. I'd love to use these tennis balls to alleviate the problems.
