Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is an urban public high school. More than three-quarters of our students are low-income. Along with the usual teenage interests, our students have a unique perspective on music and art, as they are growing up near creative centers in beach cities and Hollywood. Many teens are interested in playing guitar and making their own music, so providing support is an important part of encouraging students' extracurricular learning.
Rock Band Club can finally meet indoors again!
Last fall, efforts went toward supporting the campus music program. For spring, we want to switch our focus and start encouraging the return of live Rock Band Club! With this project, we're requesting an acoustic guitar, and three of us instructors are collaborating on the best ways they can serve as incentive value for students. For some Rock Band Club students, the club is one of the few parts of the school day they enjoy. Not being able to offer it has been sad, and we're happy to be to begin again!
