This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are balls of lightning who are so full of energy, I am exhausted by the end of the day. They are bright and cheerful even though they inhabit a world that may not be so vibrant. Our classroom is a special classroom full of students who have been labeled as emotionally disabled. Their labels mean nothing in my classroom because my students are eager to learn, eager to explore, and eager to transform their worlds from black and white into full, high-definition color. The children in my class range in age from 6 to 9 years old and live in some very precarious situations. They all live in high-poverty areas and use school as a window into a world they do not usually see in their own neighborhoods. I am moved everyday by the obstacles my students overcome to be present in class and my class has the highest attendance in the school! Our school is also comprised of students in a high poverty area and even with all their challenges, they come to school everyday with a smile.
Unfortunately, our school does not have the funds to acquire the technology that could enhance the learning that happens in the classroom.
Using an iPad to access dynamic and exciting reading and math software, our students would be stimulated and allowed to grow and expand even more. The boundaries that are created by the four walls of our classroom and the limits that come with poverty can be demolished with the students being able to access the Internet and the world beyond their own four blocks.
My Project
This technology would expose the students to a bigger world and let them explore new areas that are not possible from the classroom we inhabit together. Their minds are full of wonder and excitement and technology would help build even stronger foundations.
The donation of an iPad would foster the burgeoning scientists and explorers who already exist in the classroom.
Even with our outdated resources, the students are excited to learn. With new technology, there are no limits or barriers that can stop my team of creators! Our classroom would be improved immensely by the students being able to reach outside of their immediate environment and discover the world that is waiting for them.
