My Students

The students in my 8:1:1 program are in grades 3-5 and all have a diagnosis of autism. They receive a lot of special services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and counseling to help with fine motor skills, gross motor skills, speech, language skills, and more. Their verbal abilities range from extremely fluent to non-verbal, communicating through picture symbols and gestures.

All of my amazing students come from very different cultural and economic backgrounds and are all very loving, sweet boys and girls.

They love manipulative play, sensory play, and social games. They are engaged in science, art, and cooking lessons. They all especially enjoy physical activity and any opportunities we get to venture out into the community.

My Project

The students in our special education public school come from low-income and rough neighborhoods. Sometimes they don't always have the means to buy proper clothing or accessories to stay warm in the winter.

My class of 8:1:1 3rd-5th graders decided that to help we could set up a project and raise money to purchase enough gloves for all of our schoolmates from grades K-5.

We chose an assortment of colors and pretty bags to package them in. We will write personalized notes to each student and possibly include a picture to go with it from an variety of coloring books.
