This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a transitional kindergarten/kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 25 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.
My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.
My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning. This year my I have a very unique class in that half of my students are children with disabilities and/or are transitional kindergarteners.
My Project
I always want to make learning fun. Teaching does not stop just because the kids are at recess. I am asking for these materials for our yard so that my students can continue to explore and develop gross motor skills, science concepts, as well as social emotional skills while playing outside during recess. My students love riding their bikes on our path and I know these safety signs would be a huge hit! They encourage reading of environmental print while at the same time provide some structure and safety to our path. I would like to use the snow during our weather unit. Many of our students have never seen the snow and it would be great for them to have some simulated hands-on experience to help develop their frame of reference during our weather unit. The children love using sidewalk chalk to draw pictures, play tic-tac-toe, and write words they are learning to read and spell.
Children learn through play.
Taking turns tossing bean bags and rings, sharing the chalk and creating and beautiful playground mural, and helping to sweep up our sand around the sensory table are all ways that my students can learn to be kind, creative, and active learners. Thank you for your generosity and for helping my students to learn to love to be active!
