Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is a place where students are eager to learn every day. I have 15 wonderful 3-4-year-old students who love to explore using their Tools of the Mind curriculum.

My students all come from low-income families and receive free breakfast and lunch through our program.

As part of our program, students and teachers/ teacher's assistant sit in 2 groups in a "Family Style dining​." Students are encouraged to serve their food and pass the bowl of food to their friend. We never eat until all of our friends at our table have all their food and milk.

My students are very curious and love to explore different things everyday. As their teacher I want to provide opportunities that they may not have access to at home.

My Project

In my classroom, we have a lending library where parents can take out a book to read with their child on a weekly basis. This encourages them to read together every night for about 15-20 minutes. This year, I have a more diverse group of students. In order to promote reading, I would like to have Spanish and Hindi books in my library. This will allow the students as well as their families to read books that they can relate to. My families have expressed that they do not want their children to forget their native language and by having these books, I can help them achieve that goal.
