One Book at a Time

My students need a large variety of books for their classroom library to maintain their love of reading.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves me trying to close achievement gaps in reading comprehension and writing. Despite these gaps my students have work incredibly hard in reading. I have praised them for their interest in reading and they are beginning to flourish.

My students come from an area where most people do not expect them to perform well, but we want to prove these people wrong.

My students came to me uninterested in reading but are already making leaps and bounds in that area. Our school participates in Accelerated Reader tests, and my students have taken the most tests in the whole school. My 42 students have taken over 1,000 Accelerated Reader tests in the short two months we have been in school. Because I teach such a young group of kids, it is hard to maintain their interests. That is why I am looking to fill my library with books to keep them interested in learning, reading, and succeeding.

My Project

I am requesting sets of books to fill my literacy centers/library. My students will use these books daily for a variety of assignments and of course for reading. These books will be read thoroughly, discussed, and then have Accelerated Reader tests taken on them. These books will aid in student comprehension which will in turn help the students' scores on my tests as well as the standardized tests that are ahead of them.

Your donations to my project will aid me in helping a deserving group of kids be successful in learning and reading.

Reading is the backbone of all subjects in school. By getting these books, I will be able to help my students increase their reading levels which will in turn help them in all areas. This library will also aid in giving my students a love for reading, and turn them into lifelong learners and avid readers. Your donation will be the gift that keeps on giving to these kids.
