Many of them come from low-income backgrounds and attend an alternative school where resources are limited, and opportunities for hands-on learning don't come often. Because of DonorsChoose, my students notice when a teacher goes out of their way to make them feel seen, supported, and valued in a way that words and certain actions alone can't capture.\r\n\r\nTheir excitement was immediate. As I began unpacking certain items, my students began asking questions and eagerly helping me unpack everything. They kept saying things like, \"We get to use this?\" and \"This is for us?\" It would be heartwarming, simply because it was small things you would find in a normal school. For many of them, this was the first time they had access to materials that allowed them to do real, engaging science experiments. Instead of just reading about concepts, they finally had the tools to explore, test, build, and discover.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the resources to use during our force and motion unit. One of our favorite activities involved small-group experiment stations where students tested how different forces change the speed and direction of objects. I used many items as incentives and rewards for those students who actually participated.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just supply materials. It gave my students dignity, joy, and a sense of possibility. Seeing my students have the proper resources for my class truly put their scores above and beyond.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for us include using these supplies to design simple machines and model real-world physics in a way that feels accessible and exciting. \r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for what you've made possible in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758196167450,"projectUrl":"project/make-it-just-like-home/9462464/","projectTitle":"Make It Just Like Home!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10079116_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752515486282","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kaytlynwilliams"},{"teacherId":6562027,"projectId":7268652,"letterContent":"These books have been a key part of my classroom for the past few years. \r\nIt first helped my third graders when it was time for testing. We also watched the film after to discuss the similarities and differences between the book and the movie. \r\nFast forward to me now being back in kindergarten. My students love library time. Even though they are beginner readers, they love to do picture walks with books, and I also read to them. One of my former students also likes to come in and read to them when possible.
