We are an inner city, K-6 grade high needs school. I am the librarian here and I work in a library where my students love to read. Every day, dozens and dozens of students come through the library in search of the perfect book.
Once my students have found their library book, they often ask if I have any bookmarks. Occasionally, I do get bookmarks donated to the school, but that hasn't happened in a long time. I have made "homemade" bookmarks in the past, but they don't always turn out so good. My yearly library budget is extremely limited (only $1,000 a year) so I never have extra money to buy my own bookmarks.
I would love to offer "real" bookmarks to the kids. I know it is only something little, but it would theirs to keep, and I find that if I can give them a bookmark, then they end up taking out more books. And the more books they take out, the more they read!
New bookmarks are like new books to our kids. They just love to receive anything new and I just love to be able to offer them something. Also, a bookmark does mark their page, which means less damage to the library book. I know that this is a simple request, but it does mean something to my students. Thank you for considering this request.
