My Project
After the COVID-19 pandemic, shifts have occurred in the classroom where the focus now includes social emotional learning. Many of my students have experienced fear and anxiety while going through the pandemic. Returning to school for a sense of normalcy has been crucial to them. However, the lack of access to school supplies has resulted in many students coming to school unprepared. By ensuring I have available supplies in the classroom, it helps students feel supported and prepared for class.
Similarly, food is an ongoing concern in the class.
Many of my students are constantly hungry and searching for snacks along with the school provided meals. By creating and implementing a class snack shop system, students feel motivated to participate, complete assignments, and attend class so they may earn points. This systems has led to students feeling comfortable to find my classroom whenever they are hungry or if they need a snack before they go to their sport practices. As I continue to create a comfortable environment for the students, having extra supplies and snacks have encouraged them to come to class more and be ready to learn.
With the creation of the Broadcast club, students are given the opportunity to interview their peers and teachers, share events, and have fun recording silly moments at school. It has been a great club for many of these kids to explore their interests in filming while opening conversations between different grade levels. By providing more supplies such as microphones for filming, students are energized to participate and have fun!
