This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our class library has titles to help my struggling readers by scaffolding them as they become more fluent, which is wonderful. However, our selection is below grade level and prevents my on-level and above-level readers from reading more challenging texts.
Students who are reading in their zone of proximal development become more fluent and comprehend what they read better.
This is especially important in a time in their academic career when students stop learning to read and begin reading to learn. It is my goal to begin adding titles that challenge even my top readers so all my students have access to quality material to stimulate their minds.
