My students need to start the morning with fun outdoor activities! Simple items such as a nerf football, portable basketball hoop, basketballs, jump ropes and frisbees will make their day.
Do you love watching students have healthy fun? Our students love to have fun. Every day my class is eager to learn new things. They work hard all day and many do not have outdoor time. This is a wonderfully diverse group of sixth-grade students located in South Carolina.
We need to get them outside and moving around.
Supplies are needed for them to be active. Our students are full of energy as are most children. Some don't have a basketball at home. I want to provide an activity for them during our morning recess.
My Project
We are so excited about having daily outside time added into our schedule this year. Our 6th grade students love to be able to just throw a ball. In the past, they'd always ask if they could bring a football or basketball to play with (even if we were outside for just 5 minutes).
I'd love to have a bag of athletic goodies for them to choose from.
We'd specifically like a travel basketball hoop, basketballs, jump ropes, nerf footballs and a mesh bag to store them in. Students can use these during our morning courtyard time. We can offer morning challenges. For example, "who can jump rope for two minutes non stop?" (sounds easier than it really is!). We could also have rotation wake up stations. Students could go from basketball, to frisbee to jumping rope. Not only is this fun, but it get's them moving which is great for their health!
Activities like these will help our students build friendships, learn about team work, and athleticism. What better way to start the day than by getting the heart racing, shutting off the electronics, and putting youthful energy to good use?
