My Students

The great music educator Cheryl Lavender said, "The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children."

My 600 students are beautiful children that thirst for knowledge and new experiences, which they receive through the magic of music!

I teach at a growing Title I school where my students come from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Through music, we embrace our diversity and use it to build community in our school! Together, we sing, move, play, and create!

My Project

My school recently received a classroom set of African drums and the kids LOVE to play! We work together as a classroom community in our drum circles, celebrating diversity and encouraging creativity, just as drumming was intended!

The problem is that we have nothing to sit on!

We have to either stand or kneel to play. Neither of these options are comfortable or effective for proper drumming technique.

Having a class set of stools would help all 600 of my students have a comfortable place to sit at their own drum during class and would take up minimal space in the room. They would be better equipped to practice proper technique which would help them be more successful in music making!
