Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are vibrant little dancers. They are eager to learn about and experience dances and cultures from around the world, especially through the beautiful dances, music, and stories each represents. About 90% of my students are second language learners; our school is considered to be a Title I school, our neighborhood is considered to be of low social economic status. Lucky for me, each of my students bring their own unique culture to our dance class. My students are at an important stage in their learning where they are learning to accept, respect, and acknowledge one another regardless of similarities and differences.

My Project

As our school moves forward in becoming a dual language school, my students will benefit from the bilingual books as they learn basic Spanish and English vocabulary accompanied by an illustration depicting the key words, thus encouraging new movement possibilities. The Art of Movement dance book will enable students to draw upon meaningful connections among our dance class, their personal experiences and what’s on a text.

Visual Aids foster student learning by nurturing student's self discovery and interpretation of what is printed on a page.
