Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a very diverse group of second grade students eager to make a difference in the world! They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are on the road to becoming strong, independent people that will inspire others and change the world.

My second graders are enthusiastic hard workers in a California Distinguished STEM Magnet School.

Our school is located in a low-income area. It is 100% Title I and all students qualify for free lunch.

However, because of limited resources, not all classrooms are equipped with enough supplies to meet the needs of the students.

My Project

These art materials will positively impact my students' learning. Research shows that art programs have the potential to help improve a student's memory and concentration skills, develop decision-making and critical thinking skills, enhance communication and listening skills, but also encourages focus and discipline.

The art materials will provide my students with the opportunity to try new things, manage risk, and handle failure, connecting student learning in the arts to a wide array of academic and social benefits.

For example, exposure to art education promotes self directed learning, improves school attendance and sharpens critical and creative skills.

Allowing my students to express themselves through art will also improve their self-esteem and social skills!
