My students need to know what it is they are eating. Using these 18 copies of "The Omnivore's Dilemma for Kids" my students will learn how to be food detectives & improve their food choices.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyone eats. But what Americans eat today looks very different from our parents' or grandparents' diets. I'd like to use Michael Pollan's book to encourage my students to think about the environmental, financial, and political aspects of the food they consume.
Our Middle School is a diverse high-need school comprised of just over 1000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. The school provided meals are often the most nutritious, balanced meals my students have access to. Not all of my students have fresh fruits and vegetables available to them in their homes. Many eat fast food more than twice a week. I want to work with them on their eating habits and overall health.
My Project
From fast food and organically grown to Ma and Pop farms and old-fashioned hunting and gathering, this eye opening young reader's edition of The Omnivore's Dilemma reveals the same "secrets behind what you eat" that had kept the original on the New York Times bestseller list for more than two years. This book can help kids to consider the personal and global health implications of their food choices. The food choices and eating habits each child develops while in Middle School can help shape their health, lifestyle and attitudes toward food for the rest of their lives.
This super-sized generation needs to learn what to eat and why they should select the proper fuel to keep their bodies healthy.
Michael Pollan calls the problem of choosing what to eat--- meat or vegetables? packaged or organic? local or international? the omnivore's dilemma. Help my students learn about their eating choices with a set of these books.
