I need Orton-Gillingham Comprehensive Training to help all of my students be successful at reading through a multisensory approach to phonemic awareness and phonics.

My Students

I teach two groups of highly motivated second-grade students each day. These students are part of a Mandarin immersion program. They spend half of their day learning English Language Arts and Social Studies from me; the other half of their day is spent learning Math and Science in Mandarin. They have been part of this program since kindergarten. It is a rigorous program with high expectations, and they rise to the occasion. They truly are remarkable students in every way!

My Project

Reading is my passion. Nothing gives me greater joy than seeing the light bulb go on for students when reading clicks for them, when reading becomes their passion, too. I want all children to be able to experience the excitement of reading. For some students, reading seems like an unattainable skill because they struggle more than usual with learning to read.

Orton-Gillingham offers a multisensory approach to instruction that is good not only for struggling readers but ALL students.

Multisensory instruction incorporates touch and movement along with sight and sound, taking into account that different students learn in different ways. Each time we incorporate a sense, we create another way to remember and draw from the information we learn. The Orton-Gillingham training I would receive would allow me to teach in a way that reaches each student, as well as teach them learning strategies that they can use as they continue on in their education. Simply put, Orton-Gillingham is good for ALL students.
