Okey Dokey Karaoke!

"Once Upon a Mattress" there was a "Drowsy Chaperone" who wandered off "Into the Woods" where she met a "Wicked" witch living in a "Little Shop of Horrors." This is only one of thousands of scenarios that are possible when high school students collaborate to write an original musical using well known showtunes from Broadway musicals. I am a high school drama teacher in North Carolina who has been given the incredible opportunity of teaching a musical theatre class this year (the only one in the county). This class will integrate music, theatre, and playwriting which will ultimately increase skills needed for the tenth grade writing test.

Musical theatre is my passion, but unfortunately my resources are very limited. There is no budget for drama in the state of North Carolina. Therefore, we are a self-funded department. My students have been asking for this class for the past three years and now that I am able to offer it, I'd like to make it an incredible experience for them.

Because this is a new program, I am starting from scratch. I have a lot of resources from my personal collection in terms of books and DVDs, but very few CDs. Our school has a part-time band program and a part-time music program which makes it impossible to collaborate during the school day. Having these CDs would allow the students to have the ability to perform musical numbers with all of the bells and whistles having an orchestra would provide.
