Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a middle school that serves sixth through eighth grade students who are over seventy-five percent free or reduced price lunch. Our student population is very diverse and comes from a variety of elementary backgrounds including STEM schools. Currently, I am teaching PE and Health with many restrictions during a pandemic, which is the most wild thing I have ever seen in my thirty-two years.
My students are inquisitive, explorative, eager to learn and excited.
They are ready for a challenge!
These students have had to learn how to do school including their Exploratory classes in a crazy time. They are adapting well. It is our job that when they return to the building, that they have everything they need.
My Project
Large PE classes combined with Social Distancing, what can we do? We have 7 PE teachers in our department and need many options for our students to stay engaged, excited and motivated in our activities. Getting them outside in the fresh air is a goal of ours.
Croquet is a fantastic lawn game where we can continue offering movement and fun along with keeping a safe distance during Covid.
We are going to introduce old school lawn games and Croquet was first on our. It is a way to enjoy the great outdoors, be with friends and have some competitive fun! We have over 1200 students in our school that will be able to take advantage of playing croquet and learning a new game, one hit at a time.
