Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are fun-loving, smart and hard working! Our students come from all across the city to participate in the unique, ELL (English Language Learner) program specific for grades 6-8.
My students come from all different backgrounds to create a positive learning environment, where they will be encouraged to brainstorm, collaborate, and create works of art.
Students at our middle school take art class for an entire school year as their elective/specials class and range in different skill levels and abilities.
My Project
My students love working with oil pastels and learning about color theory. Unfortunately, our oil pastel supplies have been depleted for this year, leaving very few pastels to share among several students- some of our class sizes average around 30 students. I want my students to each have their own set of oil pastels to use independently at their tables.
Students will use the oil pastels to create works inspired by their favorite artists such as Kandinsky, Munch, Van Gogh to name a few.
Students love working in the medium of oil pastel, and learning how to blend colors together with the smooth texture of the pastels.
Oil pastels are vital to an art classroom, as they are so versatile. I want each and every one of my students to experience multiple types of art media, to become well-rounded artists.
