Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are passionate and love to learn! They are so curious and I can see the enthusiasm on all their faces everyday.

My students enjoy coming to school and are truly willing participants in their education.

My students are kind to one another and make teaching a joy.

As our school is a high poverty school, we need some help obtaining materials other schools take for granted. That is why I'm turning to the generous community at Donors Choose.

My Project

Without math manipulatives, math can be a difficult subject for many students to conceptualize. Therefore, students can struggle with comprehension without the ability to interact with math in a tangible way.

This project will enable my students to interact with math concepts in concrete ways.

Having a class set of fraction tiles will allow my students to explore fraction equivalency and fraction relationships. Number lines will allow them to better understand fractions in relation to a whole. Also, number generators, such as dominos and dice help create an exciting way for students to practice their skills.

The ability to physically manipulate and use tools deepens their understanding of foundational math concepts and allows them to then extend their thinking and transfer their knowledge base. Number lines, number generators, and number models will actively engage and promote a deeper understanding of math concepts for my students.
