My students need these organizers to use for classroom mailboxes and for storing work in progress for the writing station.

My Students
Do you remember being a child and wanting to write notes to your friends? Do you remember all the boring handwriting worksheets? Let's give students a chance to share with their friends while practicing handwriting, writing skills, spelling, and reading.
My first grade students attend a small rural school in Alabama.
We are the smallest school in our system with around 600 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Because of our size, we miss out on some of the advantages that the bigger schools have and our teachers have to pay for a lot of things out of our own pockets. My students come in every day anxious to tell their friends and me about all kinds of things they are learning and doing. We have a high number of low-income students and students who come from single family homes. Lots of times the parents are so busy working that the students don't get a lot of attention at home. Some of my students are just starving for someone to listen to them.
My Project
In my class, over half of my students are being raised in low-income single families where the parents are often at work and the children are left with an older sibling or babysitter. Parents say that when they get home and finish supper and homework it is time for bath and bed. My students are starving for someone to listen to them. Time is also a precious commodity in our room, so students are often asked to wait about sharing things with the class or myself. I want to purchase wooden paper trays to use as mailboxes for my students and myself so that during writing station they can voice their thoughts on paper and place it in their friend's mailbox. This will give students a chance to tell someone about the things that they are learning in class and things that are going on in their lives while increasing their writing and reading skills. Students can also store unfinished writing projects like journals and books they are writing in their own mailbox to finish at a later date.
Please help support this grant.
It will give my students lots of meaningful practice with reading and writing skills while allowing them to voice thoughts, ideas, and learning's with their friends. We got in trouble for passing notes when I was in school, but writing notes can be a meaningful chance for young students to practice reading and writing skills.
