Oh, The Things I Can Make

Help me give my students makerspace books to get ideas on what they can create with innovative tools, as well as a webcam and Post-its.

My Students

Although our school is located in the center of the Silicon Valley, about 50% of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged, about 25% are English language learners, and about 50% qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. Less than 50% of the parents have had some college or graduated from college.

My students are full of energy, creativity, passion, perseverance, and diversity.

Working with middle school students keeps me up with the latest clothing, music, and video game trends. I am forced to be a lifelong learner when trying to incorporate their interests into my classroom.

My Project

Students need inspiration to spark their imagination at times. With technologies like CNC Routers, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and even laminators, students need to have an idea of what these machines can do. With the advent of makerspaces in schools, many tools go unused because there is no vision for what products can be produced.

Creativity and curiosity can be sparked with a stimulating supply of maker books to ignite the ideas of the next generation of builders and designers.

Providing maker books for students to browse through will hopefully help them innovate in ways they never thought of before.

With the IPEVO Mirror Cam, students can scan a page from an idea they may discover in the books. It could operate like a modern day copy machine for research without wasting paper! The post it flags can be used as temporary bookmarks to indicate projects students might be interested in.
