This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach special education for students in a low income neighborhood. My school is a title 1 school which serves free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students have behavioral and emotional needs. They want to learn and set high goals for themselves. We have very limited supplies, especially when it comes to reading materials my students can relate to. I want to give them books about characters they can make a personal connection with. I appreciate the help. Thanks!

My Project

These books have messages my students can relate to. My students need motivation to read and these books can give them an opportunity to read something they have a personal connection with. My students need to strengthen their spelling, vocabulary and comprehension skills which comes from reading. Most of the books we have easily available to us we have to share with other teachers in schools throughout our district. By helping me create a better novel study library for my students, you are helping them to become engaged in the learning process. Even though my students are special needs, they deserve to have the opportunity to learn.
