This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Oh, the Places You'll Go when you read. March 2, 1904 a famous children's author was born - the wonderful, wordsmith Theodor Seuss Geisel. My students can't wait to discover the places they'll go through books.

My classroom is filled with 26 vibrant, eager five year olds.

They come from a community filled with poverty, homelessness, and crime but they are filled with hope. Our school is a public elementary school located in an industrial and commercial community of New York City. The school has a high African-American and Hispanic population. Many of the students have parents who have newly immigrated to the United States. In spite of it all, these students are motivated to achieve their goals and to make their families proud of their achievements.

My Project

On March 2, 2015, the National Education Association and schools across America will celebrate Read Across America Day. The book chosen for this year is the Dr. Seuss classic Oh, the Places You'll Go. This year my students will participate in this activity. They will get their own copy of a Dr. Seuss book and a Read Across America pencil. The class will enjoy a special read aloud of the book Oh, the Places You'll Go.

Donations to this project will help my students to participate in this special yearly event.

It will also help my students foster a love of learning through reading books from a beloved author. They will feel joy, excitement, and enthusiasm in knowing that they participated in this wonderful reading event. Their own copy of a Dr. Seuss book will be a special souvenir from this event.
