Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love coming to school every day. I currently teach a total of 40 enthusiastic first graders who learn in two languages! As dual language learners, my students demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and reading in both English and Spanish. My students come from racially, socially, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Nearly all of my students are from low-income households and qualify for free lunch.
My first graders are hard workers, and I am so proud of their enthusiasm to read in two languages!
They are thoughtful and caring children who love to interact and build friendships with one another. I often find them sharing and reading books together.
My Project
I have seen students become better readers with Dr. Seuss books. As a school we have several Dr. Seuss books for our students in English but we are in need of more Spanish books for our Dual Language classes. Dr. Seuss books inspire children of all ages to have a love of reading. Dr. Seuss books are not only wildly entertaining, but they help develop strong readers in so many ways. They contain rhyming patterns, sight words, nonsense words, build an appreciation for poetry, and strengthen fluency.
My project is to incorporate silly and fun books that Dr. Seuss can offer in Spanish!
I want my students to fall in love with books, and Dr. Seuss is a sure way for that to happen!
My students love to read and they enjoy being read to. I am requesting a variety of Dr. Seuss books for our classroom library. The donations of books will make my students’ reading journey extra special!
