This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At a time when the world is becoming ever more connected, my students have lost access to many wonderful places of learning. Our district no longer funds buses for field trips. So my students are no longer able to visit many museums and state parks, even when they offer free admission to schools.

My students are as diverse as their learning needs.

Their cultural roots extend all over the world. Their families are from Mexico, Central and South America, India, the Philippines, Korea, Egypt, and various parts of the United States. Half of them are English learners. Many of my students come from working class families. Their parents have limited resources with which to invest in their children's educations. Despite these challenges, they are involved in their children's educations. Likewise, my students work hard and are extremely eager to learn.

My Project

A Logitech sound system will bring the sounds of the world into our classroom. We will soon have a MacBook Air thanks to this wonderful site. With it we hope to use Skype to bring the world into our classroom. We plan to take virtual field trips to NASA, the National Parks, and museums of natural history across the United States. We also plan to use it to collaborate on learning with other classrooms in and outside of our local community. My students will be able to see imagines of people, places, and things outside of our classroom in real time. With the Logitech sound system they will be able to hear to hear them as well. The two balance ball chairs will help my students focus and be comfortable while we Skype with the world.

The speakers we currently have are 9 years old.

They are not very loud. My students have to sit within six to eight feet of them in order to hear them well. In a classroom of twenty-five students this is difficult to accomplish. Our speakers are also falling apart. Two of the speakers have had pieces fall in the last few weeks. We need a Logitech sound system to replace these failing speakers.
