I am a Pre-k teacher in a Title I school in Dallas, Texas. The majority of my students come from a low socio-economic households. The poverty level is so high that some of them go to a home with nothing to eat after school and on weekends.
My students love to learn new things and explore their curiosities but they lack the supplies needed.
They enjoy each other's company and care for each other. They come from different backgrounds and are at different academic levels.
I would like to make the classroom as welcoming as possible to enhance my students' learning experiences. This will enable them to be in a safe space, free from the anxieties in their home lives. Since an extensive vocabulary is an issue in this community, I am trying to create a love of books.
They are beginning to develop this love for reading but some students are becoming less encouraged to explore books due to broken bookshelves and lack of storage space.
I would like one bookshelf to arrange their books in a manner that will appeal to the eye and encourage more usage.
