Oh, The Place We Will Go With Skype And A Mac Book Air!
My students need a MacBook Air to help them meet, interact with, and learn from experts and students outside of their local community through Skype.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At a time when the world is becoming ever more connected, my students have lost access to many wonderful places of learning. Our district no longer funds buses for field trips. So my students are no longer able to visit many museums and state parks, even when they offer free admission to schools.
My students are as diverse as their learning needs.
Their cultural roots extend all over the world. Their families are from Mexico, Central and South America, India, the Philippines, Korea, Egypt, and various parts of the United States. Half of them are English learners. Many of my students come from working class families. Their parents have limited resources with which to invest in their children's education. Despite this challenges, they are involved in their children's educations. Likewise, my students work hard and are extremely eager to learn.
My Project
Using Skype, we will be able to use the MacBook Air to bring the world into our classroom. We will be able to take virtual field trips to NASA, the National Parks, and museums of natural history across the United States. My students will enrich their knowledge of math and our solar system by speaking with experts at NASA. They will learn more about the interrelationship between animals and their environments by interacting with park rangers.
They will also be able to meet and interact with students outside of our local community to collaborate on a variety of projects and thereby expand their learning.
The MacBook Air will also become part of our classroom computer center. My students will use it on a daily basis to take Accelerated Reader quizzes, practice reading on Starfall.com, improve their typing skills on DanceMatTyping.com, and do internet research for project-based learning units.
If we cannot travel out into to the world, a MacBook Air can help bring the world to us.
The MacBook Air will allow my students to become better readers, writers, and mathematicians and with the help of Skype, it will allow them to meet, interact with, and learn from experts and other students from communities across the United States, and perhaps the world.
