Oh Snap! A Photo Is Worth A Bazillion Words

My Students

My super awesome school is located in bright, sunny Florida. We have approximately 900 students from Pre-K to 5th Grade. Our students are energetic, outgoing, and fun and many of them learn in a non-traditional way. They need hands-on experiences to learn and help retain new information taught. As a member of the yearbook crew, I want to help capture those precious moments and document it in our school yearbook. Our students love nothing more than to see their photo in our yearbook at the end of the year, because pictures are the perfect way to give parents a window into the classroom.

We want to give our students a book that embodies their life as an Explorer.

A book that they will be able to look back on and remember where they came from, what they accomplished, and what helped to make them the person that they are today. It will also be a fun memory to show their future children what life was like when they were in school.

People often say, “A photo is worth a thousand words.” I would like to say that I believe a photo is worth a bazillion words to elementary students!

My Project

We all love reminiscing and looking back at our old elementary school yearbooks, and remembering the friends we had, activities we participated in, and the events we excitedly attended – and the students at my school are no different. Yearbooks are the culmination of hard work, passion, and dedication to putting memories on the page, and our yearbook crew tries their very best to epitomize each of those qualities.

The goal of the Explorers Yearbook crew is to create a quality, affordable yearbook that our students will treasure for the rest of their lives.

Last school year is the first year I accepted being co-leader of our yearbook crew, and I absolutely love it. We currently use a digital camera to take pictures of all of our students, teachers, and staff members; however, we only have one camera, which becomes a challenge when we have multiple events going on at one time. I am requesting a Nikon Z6 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 24-70mm Lens, FTZ Mount Adapter, and Bag Kit so we can capture higher quality photos of various school events. Many times students, parents, and teachers will use an older camera or their personal cell phone to take the pictures. Then, when they upload it to our yearbook website, the image quality tends to be too grainy and we are, unfortunately, unable to use the photograph. By adding the Nikon Z6, we will be able to capture many more memories and photographs to fill our yearbook pages. The carrying case will ensure that the yearbook crew safely stores the camera while not in use, and to protect the camera when taken to off-campus events. This equipment will last us for years and years to come.
