This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

17,000. That is the amount of people that can sit inside the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida... home to the Orlando Magic! 17,000 pairs of ears will be tuning in to hear our school perform the Star Spangled Banner in April.

I teach over 230 band students at a Title I school in central Florida.

This means that over 75% of our student population is on free or reduced price lunch due to financial strife. However, we are a strong community and push through the challenges, and in the end have created a strong music program which receives Superior ratings at performance assessments yearly. My students are driven and extremely talented, and I feel they deserve the best when it comes to the equipment and materials we use in my class.

My Project

We have a very BIG performance coming up next month and are in dire need of some basic equipment to help out. Our students will perform one of the most recognized pieces of music in the world, the National Anthem, at a NBA basketball game. This performance will showcase our students like never before and give them a chance to be heard by thousands of spectators, family, and friends. I have requested lyres and flip folders to hold my students' music while they play. Usually these are pieces of equipment only used in marching band, so it's very rare for a middle school band to have access to these. We have found a few items in an old box in our storage, but there are not enough for the entire band and we want everyone to be able to have one so that they can perform their best.

Having these resources available for the performance will guarantee each student can see their music clearly and perform such an important song accurately and confidently.

I want every student to perform with pride and be able to feel like they started off the game on a positive note. This is such a big opportunity for my students, and one they will probably never have again; I want it to be as memorable as possible.
