My Students
Poetry is an art form found in many cultures. Students are often taught poem writing in later grades but need the foundation early.
My students are a vibrant group of first graders.
They enjoy listening to and reading poems. I want to help them explore the various forms of poetry while creating their own original poems. Each child is a capable writer that can create wonderful pieces. Through the exploration of poetry they will increase their abilities.
My Project
The resources that I requested will help me to instruct the students while engaging them. The poetry books will allow them to hear what published poems sound like. The teacher materials will allow me to better understand the best techniques to teach my students to become poets. The poetry frames book will allow practice and success in poetry writing.

Who doesn't remember Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost? First grade students are the perfect audience and in turn, the perfect writers of poetry. They are ready and eager to listen to silly poems, rhyming poems and even such works by Mr. Frost. They are excited to write their own poems. These materials will allow me to lay the perfect foundation for their poetry!
