My Students

Have you ever forgotten the basic measurement conversions or which unit of measurement to use? My students want to know all about measurement, and we have no tools to measure!

I have a wonderful class filled with first and second graders!

We are a 1st year school in Indiana with a very limited budget. Our community is a low income community with little parent involvement. My students are fun and energetic. They love to be active and learn through rotations or centers. Basic worksheets are not my students' cup of tea; worksheets tend to lead to behavior problems. School is my students' outlet to express themselves and have fun.

My Project

We are starting a 8-week unit studying measurement. Receiving measuring tools will allow my students to interact and enjoy learning about measurement. If my students did not have these resources, learning about weight and capacity would not be easy; it would be an abstract thought. I do not have proper scales and containers to teach about weight and capacity. With these resources, my students will have a better understanding of measurement. State standards require me to teach specific aspects of measurement which I can not successfully do now. My students will be able to do hands-on learning, which is the best way my students learn. I will be able to give them at least 2-3 hands-on activities each week throughout our 8-week study of measurement. I will use the easel to teach about measurement and store all of our new resources in a common place, easily accessible for the students.

Measurement is a basic skill that my students need to know for the rest of their lives.

If I had measuring tools and an easel to teach from, my students would never forget how to measure! Please help my students enjoy learning about measurement, really understand it, and forever remember how to measure!
