My Students
My students live in one of the poorest zip codes in NYC. Some are in foster care, live in shelters, or in government housing. Now that my students are coming back from staying at home for an extended period of time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would like to engage them in activities that will continue to promote the skills needed to participate in school-related activities successfully.
My 30 plus students range in age from 4 to 13 years old, with various learning disorders.
I am their OT and provide occupational therapy services as per their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). My students are diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Autism, Emotional Disturbance, visual impairment, and other physical disorders like Developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Having these materials will help them feel regulated, engaged and build necessary skills to meet their educational goals and build greater independence!!
My Project
My students need a variety of supports during therapy and in the classroom setting for improved functioning throughout the day. These materials will help improve a student's ability to write, focus, and engage fully in therapy and in the classroom environment. Students will have access to materials to self-regulate, like with the use of lap pads, fidgets, and a lava lamp.
This will help my students who need sensory input to increase attention, remain calm, and help organize their brain and body for learning.
The tunnel, scooter, and yoga ball will be used to create obstacle courses for movement-based activities to help strengthen, and regulate the students. The exercise mat will be used for self-calming and sensory-motor using yoga.
The lined paper will help my students with handwriting. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will allow me to purchase worksheets to set up packets of activities for the students to practice skills at home and during the occupational therapy sessions. All of these materials will be greatly appreciated!
