The students in my school benefit from a public education that focuses on cross-curricular collaboration, project-based learning, and real-life applications. Our students come from incredibly diverse backgrounds and that's part of what makes this place so beautiful! They make me laugh every day!
My Project
As you are probably aware, many schools are currently beginning the school year with fully distant learning. In spring, we were carrying out distance learning in what we've come to call, "crisis mode." Within literally three days, my amazing colleagues and I redesigned our curriculum to make it work for the remainder of the school year. We've now spent summer preparing and reworking our curriculum, focusing on bettering what we did in spring. We will be providing students with live instruction in each class, each day. We will live stream lessons, collaborative discussions, labs, and projects. We're excited and ready to go!
However, the bottom line is, we need technology.
Our budgets have been slashed (someone please tell me why education is one of the first things to lose money during a crisis?!?). While each staff member has one laptop, that is all of the technology we have access to. During "crisis mode" in spring, I was trying to demo labs in my kitchen at home on my one laptop and it was a nightmare. It was difficult to monitor our Google Meet, switch tabs between videos and the meeting, and read students questions in the chat box, all while demonstrating to students how to create invisible ink from home....
My instruction would benefit GREATLY from having access to one iPad Pro on which I could stream my lessons, while using my computer at the same time to navigate resources I'm using for my lesson, monitor the chat box, and project materials for the lesson. Your donation would help to support NINETY 7th graders this year in my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) class! I realize this is a lofty goal, but it would really make a difference in my and my students' every day.
