This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am very excited to welcome my students back to in-person this year! Being in a self-contained special education classroom for Autistic students, I have a mix of students ranging from 6th to 8th grade.
My goal as an educator is to give my students an enriching learning environment where they can grow and reach their educational/personal goals!
My students are very curious, eager to learn, and excited to collaborate with each other (and have fun doing so, of course)! I am excited for them to engage in the learning activities planned for them this year.
My Project
The items I am requesting for my students will help me create a classroom that offers flexible seating! Flexible seating has been proven to have many positive benefits inside the classroom, most of which center on giving our students choice and flexibility. It would be great to give my students the liberty of where to sit (responsibly) and engage during class; I truly believe that it will help them become motivated, excited to learn, and come to class. I want them to feel comfortable in our space, whether it be during independent work time or when working collaboratively with their peers.
These items will make a great impact in the special education setting because flexible seating can improve levels of engagement and behavior, especially with Autistic students.
In addition to bringing flexible seating to my classroom, in this project I have included gliders called 'Fuzzy Feet Chair Glides'. My wish is to reduce loud noises/scraping during class time that results from sliding the chairs on the school floors. This will be very useful for my students who are on the spectrum that are highly sensitive to loud noises. The gliders will help create an environment that is calmer and safer.
Lastly, I am requesting cleaning supplies to maintain our learning environment, clean and safe for all. I will ensure that our flexible seating area is properly maintained and sanitized.
